Alignment in Bilingual Dialogue

In this line of research we look at how people adapt to each other during conversation. Alignment can occur at different levels, such as lexical, syntactic, semantic or even physical. It has been extensively reported between native speakers, but less is known about interactions between natives and non-natives. We are especially interested in this type of interaction through looking at a phenomenon known as “Attenuation of Information”, which touches very automatic aspects of language processing. We use behavioural methods to analyse speech from both natives and non-natives.
