Speech production and language control in bilingual patients with neurodegenerative diseases

One aim of the project is to see to which extent the dementia affects the degeneration of the two languages in bilinguals. In particular, we compare performance in speech production tasks (naming and word translation) of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and patients with mild cognitive impairment. Bilingual patients with other types of dementia will be also included in the projects, such as those diagnosed with Semantic dementia and non-fluent Progressive Aphasia.

The second aim of the project is to investigate to which extent the ability of language control is affected in patients with dementia, at different stages of the disease (mild to moderate). This is done using specific experimental paradigms, such as language switching and Stroop task.
