Neurodegenerative diseases: Language and memory effects

Speech production and language control in bilingual patients with neurodegenerative diseases

One aim of the project is to see to which extent the dementia affects the degeneration of the two languages in bilinguals. In particular, we compare performance in speech production tasks (naming and word translation) of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and patients with mild cognitive impairment. Bilingual patients with other types of dementia will be also included in the projects, such as those diagnosed with Semantic dementia and non-fluent Progressive Aphasia.

Memory for faces and names in patients with Alzheimer’s disesase

This project aims at investigating the nature of the deficit in proper name retrieval in Alzheimer’s disease patients. By comparing performance of patients in explicit (face naming) and implicit tasks (priming) we want to see whether the deficit is due to an access to the information or due to a degradation of the semantic network.
